Okapi InformationThe okapi (Okapia johnstoni) is a ruminant mammal found in the Ituri Rainforest, in central Africa. It prefers altitudes between 500 and 1,000 m. This animal is closely related to the giraffe, belonging to the same family called Giraffidea. It weighs between 450 to 550 pounds. The okapi has a similar body shape, but the neck is much shorter. The okapi also has a long blue tongue, like the giraffe. Only the stripes on its legs make it look like a zebra. Okapis are considered an endangered species.
